Job Description

General Sales Manager

Sunshine Chevy | Asheville, North Carolina

Position Overview

Sunshine Chevy is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on General Sales Manager to lead our new and pre-owned vehicle sales operations in the Asheville and Western North Carolina market.

The ideal candidate is a proven automotive sales leader, a great closer, meticulous in their attention to detail, and someone who knows how to move the needle when it comes to sales volume, gross profit, team performance, and overall dealership success.

This individual must be comfortable leading from the floor, developing salespeople and managers, driving accountability, and creating a culture focused on performance, professionalism, and customer satisfaction.

Chevrolet or GM franchise experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Driving Performance

Lead daily sales operations with a strong presence on the showroom floor. Conduct engaging, productive morning sales meetings that establish clear goals, reinforce processes, and drive sales activity. Drive new and used vehicle sales volume while protecting front-end gross profit. Be a strong closer who can effectively work deals, overcome objections, and assist the sales team in converting opportunities into sales. Identify weaknesses in the sales process and implement strategies that produce measurable improvement. Develop sales managers and consultants through hands-on coaching, accountability, and consistent performance management. Create a culture of urgency, ownership, professionalism, and execution. Demonstrate the ability to move the needle in sales volume, gross profit, closing ratios, and overall departmental performance.

CRM & Process Management

Utilize DriveCentric CRM to manage leads, customer engagement, follow-up, and sales activity. Ensure every opportunity is properly documented and consistently worked. Monitor lead response times, appointment setting, show rates, and closing ratios. Maintain meticulous attention to detail in deal structure, customer information, follow-up, and sales procedures. Establish consistent processes that eliminate missed opportunities and improve accountability. Use CRM reporting and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.

New & Pre-Owned Vehicle Operations

Oversee new Chevrolet and pre-owned vehicle sales operations. Manage inventory levels, pricing strategies, aging, and turn rate. Work closely with the used vehicle department to improve acquisition, appraisal accuracy, and profitability. Monitor market pricing and maintain competitive inventory positioning. Maximize front-end gross while maintaining a strong customer experience. Execute manufacturer incentives and sales programs effectively.

Team Development & Accountability

Recruit, train, motivate, and retain high-performing sales personnel. Set clear expectations and hold the team accountable for daily activity and monthly objectives. Lead by example through active involvement in customer interactions and deal negotiations. Develop future sales leaders and create a team-oriented environment. Recognize performance while addressing deficiencies quickly and professionally.

Customer Experience & Operational Excellence

Maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction and professionalism. Resolve escalated customer concerns with confidence and urgency. Ensure accuracy and attention to detail throughout the sales process. Promote transparent pricing, ethical practices, and long-term customer relationships.

Qualifications

Proven automotive dealership sales management experience with strong closing ability and a track record of converting opportunities into sales. Demonstrated ability to increase sales volume, gross profit, and overall dealership performance. Experience managing both new and used vehicle operations. Working knowledge of DriveCentric CRM or similar automotive CRM platforms. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and deal-structuring abilities. Ability to lead effective morning meetings and maintain consistent sales-floor accountability. Chevrolet or GM franchise experience is a plus. Strong understanding of dealership financial statements, inventory management, and variable operations. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who doesn't simply manage the sales department but actively makes it better.

Someone who is a natural leader and a proven closer, understands the difference between being busy and producing results, and is meticulous about the details that impact profitability and customer satisfaction. Someone who can identify opportunities, create a plan, and execute. A leader who conducts morning meetings with purpose and energy, knows how to motivate a team while holding people accountable, and can improve processes, increase sales, and make a measurable difference in dealership performance.

Above all, we are looking for someone who takes ownership of results and leads from the front.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive compensation package based on experience and performance, including base salary with performance-based incentive compensation, benefits package, paid time off, and professional development and advancement opportunities.
